DOWNTOWN ART WALK
Evening Video Performance
Thursday, March 11th
G727-727 S Spring Street, 90014
On the night of March 11th, Cindy Santos Bravo’s video piece The Highs and Lows Vol II: Cadillac Café will move to the street accompanied by a musical interpretation by the Los Angeles band Valleys and Empires, whose collaborative interest shifts the emphasis to the subtitled narrative concerning “Jelly Roll” Morton’s LA blues. The video was originally scored by Hagai Izraeli and Itai Disraeli, who form the jazz duo MAETAR, which linked the historical style of “Jelly Roll” Morton to his 1917 westbound journey through Los Angeles. The sequence of events in Morton’s first LA experience was brief, notable and appropriately retold in interviews conducted by Alan Lomax in Jelly Roll Morton: The Complete Library of Congress Recordings. Morton’s re-telling is the surviving element to the infamous location Cadillac Cafe which continues to be reconstructed in this second audio collaboration.
